Gross figures only — before taxes, benefits and deductions. Salaried and hourly earnings are taxed identically at the same total income; what differs is overtime eligibility and typically the benefits package.
One number, seven forms. Enter your pay as hourly, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly or annual, and see every equivalent at once — adjusted for your real hours and paid weeks. Built for comparing a salaried offer against hourly work, or checking what overtime is actually worth.
Every conversion is just a division — 52 weekly periods, 26 biweekly, 24 semi-monthly, 12 monthly. The genuinely tricky input is time. A salary divided by 2,080 hours (40 × 52) gives a different rate than one divided by hours actually worked, and unpaid time off changes the denominator. Most converters hide those levers. We put them on the page.
hourly = annual ÷ (hours/week × paid weeks/year)- annual
- total yearly pay before tax
- hours/week
- hours actually worked, not contracted if they differ
- paid weeks
- 52 with paid PTO; fewer if leave is unpaid
Worked example: $52,000 at 40 hours
At 40 hours across 52 weeks, $52,000 converts to exactly $25.00 an hour — $1,000.00 weekly, $2,000.00 biweekly, $2,166.67 semi-monthly, $4,333.33 monthly. Take two unpaid weeks and the effective rate rises to $26.00: the same money compressed into 2,000 hours. That gap — $1.00 an hour — is why PTO is part of compensation, not a perk beside it.
| Frequency | Per period | Periods / year |

| Daily | $200.00 | 260 days |
| Weekly | $1,000.00 | 52 |
| Biweekly | $2,000.00 | 26 |
| Semi-monthly | $2,166.67 | 24 |
| Monthly | $4,333.33 | 12 |
Comparing a salary to an hourly job: the honest method
Compare effective hourly rates, not headline totals. A $60,000 salaried role with a realistic 50-hour week pays $23.08 an effective hour; a $28 hourly job at 40 hours pays $58,240 — and typically offers overtime at 1.5× beyond 40 if it's non-exempt. Then add the invisible layer: salaried roles more often carry health insurance, a retirement match and paid leave, which can add 20%–30% to total compensation. Chasing the bigger headline number is a common way to end up working out poorer.
| Offer | Headline | Effective hourly | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salaried, 50 h norm | $60,000 | $23.08 | No overtime; benefits likely |
| Hourly, 40 h | $28/h | $28.00 | OT-eligible; benefits vary |
| Contractor, no PTO | $35/h | ≈$32 effective | Self-funds time off, taxes, benefits |
Biweekly versus semi-monthly: why the per-check amount differs
Both add to the same annual total, but 26 ÷ 12 and 24 are not the same division. $52,000 pays $2,000.00 biweekly and $2,166.67 semi-monthly. Biweekly also produces two three-check months each year (or one, depending on the calendar) — a budgeting quirk that surprises people on the monthly-bills treadmill. Semi-monthly checks align with rent but land on slightly shifting dates.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert annual salary to hourly?
Divide the salary by paid hours per year: hourly = salary ÷ (hours per week × paid weeks per year). A $52,000 salary at 40 hours and 52 weeks is $25.00 per hour. If you take two unpaid weeks, the effective rate rises to $26.00, because the same money is earned in 50 weeks.
How much is $50,000 a year per hour?
At 40 hours and 52 weeks: $24.04 per hour, $961.54 a week, $4,166.67 a month. With two unpaid weeks off, $25.00 an hour. Every conversion on this page updates together, so you can check any figure against your own schedule.
How do I convert hourly pay to annual salary?
Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and paid weeks per year: $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000. Salaried employees usually get paid holidays and PTO included, so an hourly wage with the same annual total actually implies a higher true hourly rate.
What is semi-monthly versus biweekly pay?
Semi-monthly is 24 paychecks a year (twice a month, often the 15th and last day); biweekly is 26 (every two weeks). Same annual total, different per-check amounts: $52,000 pays $2,166.67 semi-monthly or $2,000.00 biweekly. Biweekly months occasionally contain three checks.
Should I compare jobs on salary or hourly?
Compare annual totals and hours actually worked. A $60,000 salaried role with a 50-hour norm pays $23.08 an effective hour; a $28 hourly job at 40 hours pays $58,240 with overtime potential. Benefits — health insurance, retirement match, PTO — are part of the real number too.
How do taxes differ between salary and hourly work?
They do not, at the same income: payroll and income taxes are computed on total earnings regardless of pay structure. W-4 withholding may differ slightly in pattern — a salaried paycheck is even, hourly pay fluctuates — but annual tax owed is identical.
What about overtime for salaried employees?
Most salaried 'exempt' employees are not eligible for overtime under the FLSA, which is why effective hourly rate matters. Non-exempt employees — salaried or hourly — must receive 1.5× their regular rate beyond 40 hours a week. Classification rules have specific salary thresholds.
How do I account for paid time off in the rate?
If PTO is paid, keep 52 weeks in the denominator — you earn the salary across all of them. If days off are unpaid, use the weeks actually worked. Comparing an hourly contractor (no PTO) against a salaried employee? The contractor's rate should be roughly 5%–10% higher just to break even on unpaid time.
